Among these are Christians, who, despite their small numbers, play a significant role in the nation’s spiritual and social fabric. However, Christians in Chad face numerous challenges, and understanding these struggles is crucial for those of us who seek to support and pray for them.

Chad is situated in north-central Africa and is bordered by Libya, Sudan, the Central African Republic, Cameroon, Nigeria, and Niger. It has a population of around 16 million people, with a mix of ethnic groups and languages. Islam is the dominant religion, with about 55% of the population identifying as Muslim. Christianity represents approximately 20% of the population, while the remaining 25% follow traditional African religions. Chad has experienced significant political instability, including conflicts and military coups. The country has a history of governance issues and human rights concerns, which have impacted all aspects of life, including religious practices.

Many Chadian Christians face economic hardship. The country is one of the poorest in the world, with limited access to education, healthcare, and basic services. The assailants targeted the church during a Sunday service, resulting in several injuries and damage to the building. This attack was reportedly motivated by religious intolerance and was part of a broader pattern of increasing violence against Christian communities in certain areas.
