When Change Hurts but Growth is Waiting

Change is one of those things that we don’t get to escape. It comes in so many ways—sometimes gently like the shifting of the seasons, and other times like a storm that knocks the wind out of us. Today I found myself on the phone, crying in a way I didn’t expect. The words felt too heavy, the emotions too real. And yet, in the middle of those tears, I was reminded: God sees them. Every single one. None of them are wasted.

We like to imagine that growth only happens when things are good—when doors open, when joy fills the air, when life feels steady. But I’ve found that some of the deepest growth happens when nothing feels steady at all. When change rips us from what we thought we knew. When waiting stretches so long that it feels endless. When tears blur our vision and we can’t see what’s next.

And yet… waiting doesn’t have to mean wasting. Change doesn’t have to mean crumbling. If we let Him, God can take those fragile moments—the ones that feel unbearable—and turn them into soil for growth.

Maybe right now you’re in a season where the ground is shifting beneath your feet. Maybe doors closed that you thought would stay open. Maybe you’re holding prayers that still feel unanswered. Or maybe, like me today, you’re just tired from holding it all in, and the tears finally broke through.

Always remember God isn’t afraid of your tears. He isn’t shocked by your questions. He isn’t distant in your waiting. Psalm 56:8 says He keeps every tear in a bottle. Think about that. Every tear you cry has worth to Him. They are not forgotten, not overlooked. They are seeds—seeds that, in His time, can grow into something beautiful.

So maybe this season isn’t just about waiting for change. Maybe it’s about who you’re becoming in the middle of it. Maybe God is shaping you, stretching you, teaching you to lean on Him in ways you never have before. Maybe the growth that feels invisible now will one day bloom into something you couldn’t even imagine.

And when that day comes, you’ll look back and see that every tear had a purpose. Every quiet night, every question, every stretch of silence was leading you closer to Him, molding you into someone who knows how to stand firm in storms.

Change is hard. Waiting is hard. But with God, neither is wasted. Growth can happen here—right here, in the in-between, in the not-yet, in the tears that slip silently down your face. Trust Him with it. Trust that He is writing a story that makes sense even when we can’t see the ending. Trust that it really will be okay.

Because with Him, it always will.

Much love,
Vanessa
