Seek Ye First

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33

I think sometimes we read that verse and nod our heads, but then go right back to stressing about everything in life. The truth is, worry comes so naturally to us. We wonder about our future—what’s next, how things will work out, if we’ll have enough, if we’ll be okay. It’s almost second nature to try to figure it all out.

But Jesus doesn’t tell us to have all the answers. He tells us to seek Him first. That’s it. Not “seek a perfect plan,” not “seek security,” not “seek comfort.” Seek Him.

Seeking God isn’t just a quick prayer when life feels hard. It’s choosing Him first thing in the morning. It’s opening His Word and actually letting it shape the way we live. It’s asking, God, what do You want for me today? How do You want me to love the people around me? How can I glorify You right here, where You’ve placed me?

And the beautiful part is—when our hearts are set on Him first, everything else falls into place. That doesn’t mean life will be perfect or that we’ll get everything we want. But it does mean He’ll take care of us. He knows what we need. He knows our future. He’s already there.

So instead of carrying the weight of tomorrow, what if we learned to be faithful where we are right now? To stop letting fear about the future steal the joy of today? God hasn’t asked us to live in the unknowns of next year or ten years from now. He’s asked us to live fully present in this moment and to keep our eyes on Him.

Seeking God first doesn’t just change our priorities—it changes our peace. When He’s in the center, the worries don’t feel as heavy, because we know Who holds them.

So maybe today, the reminder is simple. Don’t rush ahead. Don’t let worry rule your heart. Seek Him first. And trust that the God who cares for the sparrows and clothes the lilies of the field will take care of you too.

Much love and many prayers,
Vanessa
